Universities have announced the launch of new training majors

Hanoi Economics University has launched seven new majors, including Business Analysis, Data Science in Economics and Business, Financial investment, Financial technology, Smart Business Administration, Quality Management & Innovation and International Hotel Management.

Under the training programs, the teaching will be carried out in English, so candidates need to have good basic English skills. The school plans to enroll 50 students in every new major.

Prof Tran Tho Dat, rector of the Hanoi Economics University, said these are interdisciplinary training majors designed to prepare workers for the 4.0 industry era.

Dat said the majors have been created with experts and partner schools. Many seminars have been organized with representatives from businesses where trainers and employers exchanged views about curricula.

Analysts say that universities need to reform their training methods and update academic knowledge for students to help graduates adapt to the new circumstances of the digital economy.

“The consultation with businesses to perfect curricula is a necessity,” Dat explained.

The HCM City University of Technology Education has also opened a new major – robotics and AI (artificial intelligence). The students will be exempt from tuition and receive lectures in English.

With such high privileges, the school has set very high requirements on candidates. Only students who get 24 on at least three exam subjects on the national high school finals are eligible to apply for the major. Only 20 students will be enrolled for the first training course.

Analysts say that universities need to reform their training methods and update academic knowledge for students to help graduates adapt to the new circumstances of the digital economy.

Studies showed that Vietnam’s biggest problems in training a high-quality labor force lie in the lack of connections between training establishments and recruiting agencies, and the unreasonable curricula.

The analysts note that universities will provide inter-disciplinary majors which allows students to obtain knowledge about multiple fields.

Do Van Dung, rector of the HCM City University of Technology Education, confirmed that robotics & AI is a major with high interdisciplinary characteristics, and does not belong to any faculty of the school.

Hue University has announced the launch of 15 new majors, including Software engineering, Biological Engineering and Automation.

Meanwhile, at the Vietnam Agriculture Academy, training programs have been updated  with IT knowledge and issues on global integration to help students better approach the new requirements of the labor market.

Nguyen Van Thiep from Hanoi National University said reform of training is a must now. Even journalism and jurisprudence also need to be updated.
