Rich and diverse forest resources
Nghe An is located in the Northeast of Truong Son range. Its terrain is diverse, complex and divided by systems of mountains, rivers and streams. The natural land area of the midland and mountainous region is 13,749.2 km2, accounting for 83.4% of the natural area of Nghe An province.
The province owns the largest area of forests and forestry land in the country, with a total planned forestry land area of over 1.166 million hectares, accounting for 70.7% of the total natural area, including 622,466 hectares of production forests.
Nghe An's forest resources are rich and diverse. The western area of Nghe An is home to a biosphere reserve with an area of nearly 1,291 hectares. This is the largest among Vietnam's nine biosphere reserves, a green corridor connecting hree core areas of Pu Mat National Park, Pu Huong Nature Reserve and Pu Hoat Nature Reserve, creating continuity in habitat and rich biodiversity values.
Nghe An's forests are also a potential source of raw materials for industries producing goods from forest products, including wood and non-wood products.
The province currently has 965,057 hectares of forested land, including about 181,000 hectares of planted forests, with forest coverage of 58.5%, wood reserves of over 91 million m3 (over 9.6 million m3 of planted forest wood, 1,941,681 of bamboo trees) and favorable conditions to grow many precious medicinal plants such as puxailaileng ginseng, mu tun, yellow flower tea and many other medicinal herbs under the forest canopy. The average annual output of wood harvested recently has reached 1.2 - 1.4 million m3, the average annual exploitable output is stable at over 2.5 million m3.
The province has a synchronous transportation system, including roads, railways, seaports, airports, border gates... linking with the entire North Central region and the whole country, creating favorable conditions for economic development in general and the forest product processing and export industry in particular.
To make good use of available advantages and potentials, in recent years, the local forestry industry has gradually applied high technology in research and production, focusing on a number of key areas such as application of high technology to select and propagate forestry trees; applying remote sensing technology to investigate and monitor forest management; using automation technology, new material technology in the field of forest product processing and preservation.
Driving force for the development of the forestry industry
The Government's approval of the project "High-tech forestry park in the North Central region in Nghe An province" is expected to be a breakthrough to develop the forestry industry of Nghe An province in particular and the entire North Central region as a whole.
It is considered a driving force to promote the development of the forestry industry in general and the wood and non-wood forest product processing industry in particular in the region, meeting the inevitable requirements of practice.
Accordingly, the project has 3 functional subdivisions including: Seed production center and the planted forest area for testing, demonstration, intensive afforestation, planting of medicinal plants and non-timber forest products; wood and non-wood forest product processing production area applying high technology; trading floor, combined with display area to introduce raw wood and products processed from wood and non-wood forest products.
The project enjoys investment incentives in terms of land use fees and land use taxes; investment in infrastructure systems; import tax, corporate income; research and technology transfer; human resource training, market development...
Nghe An aims to turn the wood and non-wood forest products processing industry into a driving economic sector in production and export of the entire North Central region in general and Nghe An province in particular by 2025; turning Nghe An into a large wood production, processing and export center in the North Central region and the Central region.
