Border guards and other forces in the central province of Nghe An on February 25 arrested a man suspected of trafficking 4,800 methamphetamine pills.
The arrestee was Lo Van Duc, who resides in My Ly commune, Ky Son district, Nghe An province.
The 29-year-old man was seized in Kim Son town, Que Phong district which borders Laos, smuggling the meth pills.
The case is under further investigation.
Last December, local border guards also arrested a Lao citizen named Tho No Bi smuggling 50,000 meth pills and 6kg of crystal meth into Vietnam.
Vietnam and Laos share a border of nearly 2,340 km that runs across through Nghe An and nine other Vietnamese provinces, namely Dien Bien, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam and Kon Tum.
The border traverses 10 Lao provinces - Phongsaly, Luang Prabang, Houaphan, Bolykhamsay, Khammoune, Savannakhet, Salavan, Xiengkhouang, Sepon and Attapeu.-VNA
