Police in Nghe An Province has arrested the leaders of two local companies for producing and trading fake petrol.
Nguyen Van Tuan arrested for producing fake petrol
On October 30, the provincial Police's Economic Crime Investigation Department announced that they had prosecuted two local companies' leaders, Nguyen Van Tuan and Nguyen Van Ky in Ngoc Tan Village, Dien Chau District.
Tuan and Ky have been detained for three months to serve the investigation. Tuan is the son of Sau Hang Company's director, Nguyen Xuan Sau, and Ky is the director of Ky Phuong Company.
The police have seized documents after searching Tuan and Ky's homes. Tuan admitted having bought 40,000 litres of solvents to mix fake petrol since September. According to the investigation results, Tuan bought 180,000 litres and Ky bought 40,000 litres. They earned as much as VND4,000 (18 US cents) of profit per litre of sold petrol.
In early October, the police also discovered another fake petrol making collaboration carried out by Thanh Ngu Company and Kien Luc Company.
Since September, Kien Luc Company had bought 320,000 litres of solvents to make substandard A92 petrol. It had sold over 2 million litres of substandard petrol to local petrol stations.
Chief inspector at the provincial Department of Sciences and Technology, Nguyen Manh Ha, said that 11 out of 12 A92 samples taken from 12 petrol companies in the area were substandard. The samples from the Global Petroleum Trading JSC showed that the A92 petrol content was below 50%.
The police are expanding the investigation to other local companies.
The higher the octane, the more compression the fuel can withstand before detonating. Use of petrol with low octane numbers may lead to engine knocking.
