Sources from An Phuoc Prison, where she was serving her sentence, confirmed that procedures were being finalized this morning (September 19) to grant her release.
Nguyen Phuong Hang had been serving her sentence at An Phuoc Prison, located in Phu Giao District, Binh Duong Province. The prison management proposed a reduction of her sentence based on her good behavior during her time in custody.
Due to the timing of the proposal coinciding with Vietnam’s National Day (September 2), priority was given to other prisoners eligible for special amnesty. Her case was reviewed and processed after the holiday.
After reviewing her file, the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City approved the reduction, cutting three months off her sentence. The court's decision was sent to An Phuoc Prison and relevant authorities to be enacted.
Nguyen Phuong Hang was initially sentenced to serve until December 2024. With the sentence reduction, she is now being released three months early.
“An Phuoc Prison is completing the final procedures for her early release this morning,” a source confirmed.
In April of this year, the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City sentenced Nguyen Phuong Hang to two years and nine months in prison for "abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State, organizations, and individuals."
