On Aug. 24, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Writers’ Association convened a meeting of its Executive Committee for the 2020-2025 term. In addition to Executive Committee members, the meeting was attended by representatives of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission, and the Culture and Arts Department under the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilization, among others.
The meeting was held to review and consider disciplinary action against Nguyen Quang Thieu, president of the Vietnam Writers’ Association, in accordance with regulations, and to assign someone to oversee the association’s operations until the position of president is filled.
The Executive Committee discussed the matter and, in a secret ballot, approved the removal of poet Nguyen Quang Thieu as president of the Vietnam Writers’ Association for its 2020-2025 term.
Meanwhile, writer Nguyen Binh Phuong, vice president of the Vietnam Writers’ Association for the 2020-2025 term, was assigned to oversee the association’s operations until a new president is appointed.
Earlier, on July 30 in Hanoi, the Central Inspection Commission held its 10th meeting, chaired by its head, Tran Sy Thanh.
At the meeting, the Central Inspection Commission reviewed the findings of an inspection into signs of violations, as well as the results of reviews and proposed disciplinary measures involving the Party cell of the Writers’ Association Publishing House for the 2025-2027 term and several Party members concerned. The commission decided to remove Nguyen Quang Thieu from all his positions within the Communist Party of Vietnam.
