Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh is competing at the Vietnam Open badminton tournament at Nguyen Du Gymnasium on September 4-10 in HCM City.

World No 63 Minh is the ninth seed in the men’s singles at the event, which will feature 330 players from 13 countries and territories such as Brunei, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore and the US.
Minh, who won bronze in the men’s singles category of last month’s Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, will meet Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo of India in the first round.
The 34-year-old Minh has won the Vietnam Open four times in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012.
In the women’s singles, Minh’s wife, Vu Thi Trang, world No 46, is also competing.
Trang, 25, won bronze in the Youth Olympics in 2010 and a bronze in the SEA Games in 2013.
Winners of the last year’s event including gold medallist Yeo Jia Min of Singapore in the women’s singles, Chong Wei Feng of Malaysia (silver medalist in the men’s singles) and Lin Yu Hsien of Chinese Taipei (bronze medalist of men’s singles) will enter the tournament.
This is the tenth edition of the tournament, with total prize funds of US$65,000.
