Deputies voted by secret ballot to elect the new Chief Justice.

After completing the required procedural steps and based on vote counting results, the National Assembly discussed and approved a resolution electing the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court for the 2021-2026 term.

Nguyen Van Quang, a member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Supreme People's Court, was elected as Chief Justice for the 2021-2026 term with 440 out of 441 deputies present voting in favor.

Immediately after the announcement, Chief Justice Nguyen Van Quang took the oath of office.

From prosecutor to judiciary leader

Nguyen Van Quang was born in 1969 in Hai Phong City and holds a doctorate in law.

He began his career as a criminal investigator and spent many years working in the prosecutorial system.

His previous positions include Head of the People’s Procuracy of Le Chan District, Deputy and then Head of the Hai Phong City People’s Procuracy, and Director of the Civil Case Supervision Department at the Supreme People’s Procuracy.

In June 2015, he became a Senior Prosecutor and was appointed Director of the High-Level People’s Procuracy in Ho Chi Minh City.

Two years later, he became Director of the Economic Crime Prosecution and Investigation Supervision Department at the Supreme People’s Procuracy.

By September 2018, he was promoted to Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy.

In December 2019, the Party Secretariat assigned him to the Party Executive Committee and Standing Committee of the Da Nang Party Committee, where he served as Executive Deputy Secretary for the 2015–2020 term.

In October 2020, he was elected Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee.

In early September 2025, he was appointed Permanent Deputy Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate.

On November 4, he was officially assigned to the Party Executive Committee and Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Court and appointed as Secretary of its Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term.
