After graduating from college in the US, Nhon returned to Vietnam and started his business with veterinary medicine trade through Thanh Nhon Trading, which later was split into two large conglomerates – Novaland Group and Anova Corporation, operating in veterinary medicine, chemicals and input pharmacy materials.

2. Duong Cong Minh, president of Him Lam Group, LienVietPost Bank, Lien Viet Securities.


Minh took a lot of jobs, from mango trader to land registration service provider before he established Him Lam Group in 1994.

Him Lam is a group invested in many business fields with 20 subsidiaries and associated companies in real estate and finance & banking sectors.

3. Dao Hong Tuyen, president of Tuan Chau Group. 

Tuyen is very famous in Vietnam for his ‘crazy’ plan to pour soil into the sea to create a path that connects the mainland with the island of Tuan Chau. 

Tuyen’s conglomerate ownw a lot of tourism sites, entertainment complexes and resorts.

4. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, vice president and CEO of HD Bank, CEO of Vietjet Air, founding shareholder of Sovico Holdings

Starting her business when she was a second-year student in Russia, Thao became a dollar millionaire at the age of 21 thanks to facsimile machine and rubber plastics trading.

5. Nguyen Dang Quang, 53, chair of Masan Group, vice president of Techcombank

He was the pioneer in manufacturing instant noodles in Russia. In 2001, he returned to Vietnam to set up a business that makes consumer goods. 90 percent of Vietnamese use at least one product of Masan.

6. Truong My Lan, chair of Van Thinh Phat Group

Lan established Van Thinh Phat Group in 1992 which initially focused on hotels and restaurants. Later, Van Thinh Phat made investment in many business fields related to the real estate sector.

7. Nguyen Thi Nga, 61, president of BRG Group, SeABank and Intimex Vietnam

Appearing on Forbes’ most influential women in Vietnam in 2015, Nga now runs BRG Group, which contributes capital to a project on developing a $900 million TV tower. It also invests in many 5-star hotels and banks.

8. Vu Quang Hoi, 53, president of Bitexco

Hoi’s name was initially known as the owner of the once-famous mineral water – Vital. However, he is better known for investments in the real estate sector, especially Bitexco building, highly appreciated in HCMC.

9. Tran Thi Huong, 80, president of Hoan Cau Group and advisor to NamA Bank

Huong did not finish the fifth grade, but developed Hoan Cau Group, the co-sponsor of the 2008 Miss Universe beauty contest.
