Previously, Ninh Binh authorities asked the Ministry of Finance to recognize three Toyota cars, which are priced $300,000, as the State assets. The cars were the gifts from Hoa Lu Construction and Trading Co., Ltd., based in Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province, which were said to be used for flood prevention, search and rescue activities.

In the dispatch sent to the Ministry of Finance, Ninh Binh authorities said that the cars were presented “voluntarily” by the company and committed that the local government would not give any incentives or preferences to the gift giver.

However, the luxury gift has stirred up controversy among the public, which urged Ninh Binh authorities to refuse the expensive gift.

Thanh explained that the provincial flood prevention committee has only two Land Cruiser cars, which were used at full capacity as Ninh Binh has many mountainous districts and is prone to flood and storms.
