Police in the central province of Ninh Thuan said that they had launched an official investigation into the rape of a 14-year-old girl in Ninh Hai District.

A minor girl is allegedly raped by ten boys late last month at the sea dyke in Ninh Hai District, central province of Ninh Thuan. 

The incident took place on September 30. Seven out of the ten suspects arrested reside in Khanh Hai Town, Ninh Hai District, and the oldest one is 16 years old. Three of the suspects have been released on bail, as they are minors.

The suspects admitted to the police that on the evening of September 30, they invited the girl to an outdoor party at the sea dyke. When the girl wanted to leave, one of the suspects offered to drive her home on a motorbike but soon after, the bike ran out of petrol.

Another suspect chased the girl who was walking along the sea dyke and then raped her. The others reportedly also joined in.

The girl was taken to her home early the next morning. Her family reported the case to the local police after she narrated it to them.

According to Vietnam’s Criminal Code 1999, Article 112 states that those who rape a child aged between 13 and 16 will be given seven to 15 years of jail time.
