Terminal 1 was first put into use in 2001 with an original capacity of 6 million passengers a year and was renovated in 2013 to handle 9 million.

The latest upgrade work began in July 2017 and was completed in early September of this year.

The total floor area of the terminal remains the same at 90,000 square metres but many sections such as the check-in, security and shopping areas have been reorganised and revamped to increase the terminal’s handling capacity.

The electricity and air-conditioning systems have also been renovated.

Access to and from Terminal 1 has been improved with the addition of two bus gates and an increase of the total boarding gates to 12.

The first floor is reserved for arrivals and luggage return while the second floor is home to the check-in and waiting lounge areas. The third floor houses office space and VIP lounges.
