After being temporarily shut down due to landslides in the central province of Quang Binh, local sections of the North-South railway were reopened to traffic on October 17.

Workers are  fixing the railway

More than 1,000 personnel had been mobilised to put the railway between Ngoc Lam and Minh Le stations back to operation within three days.

Trains now are allowed to run at 5km/h through the sections. Repairs are being carried out to soon let the vehicle resume their normal speed.

As of 6:00 pm on October 14, a total of nine landslide sites were discovered in Quang Binh due to extensive rain, paralysing local sections of the North-South railway, according to the Vietnam Railways (VNR).

As a result, trains running through the North-South line in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City were all suspended.

EVN addresses interrupted power supply in central region

Staff of the Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) are working hard to resume power supply in the central region which has been interrupted by serious flood over the last few days.

EVN said while the high-voltage lines of 110kV, 220kV and 500kV still operate normally, distribution networks in the central region have been affected.

In Nghe An province, power outages were reported in Quy Chau, Con Cuong and Yen Thanh districts and Vinh city. Only one of the 113 medium-voltage lines in the province remains broken as of October 17 afternoon, but it has caused power interruptions at 19 transformer stations that provide electricity for five communes.

Power suppliers in nearby Ha Tinh province had to suspend electricity provision for about 138,500 clients to ensure safety. At present, power is still off in Huong Khe district, two communes of Thach Ha district and three communes of Cam Xuyen district since floodwater has yet to recede.

Power cuts were also made to ensure safety in many areas of Quang Binh province, including Dong Hoi city and the districts of Le Thuy, Quang Ninh, Bo Trach, Quang Trach, Tuyen Hoa and Minh Hoa. The supply of electricity has been resumed in Dong Hoi, Quang Ninh and Minh Hoa so far.

EVN’s power company in Quang Tri province has recovered power distribution in almost all districts, except for Dakrong which is still isolated by floodwater.

Meanwhile, all problems with medium-voltage lines in Thua Thien-Hue province have been fixed, and power supply has been back to normal in Hai Binh, Huong Thuy, Phu Loc and Huong Tra districts, the group said.
