A new cold spell has hit the northern region with temperatures of between 10-12 degrees centigrade.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the cold weather has affected many localities in the northern region with the temperature ranging from 15 to 18 degrees centigrade. The mountainous areas have seen lower temperatures of 10-12 degrees centigrade.    

The cold snap has been forecasted to become stronger from tonight, December 24. It will also affect the northern central and central localities.

The centre reported that Hanoi will see no rains for some days and experience temperatures of 16-18 degrees centigrade.

The Gulf of Tonkin is set to experience a north-east monsoon, causing rough sea.

Meanwhile, provinces from Nghe An to Khanh Hoa would have rains, and localities from Quang Tri and Binh Dinh have been warned to thunderstorms and hail.
