14 artists from Hai Phong City have opened a nude painting and sculpture exhibition entitled Phuong at Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi.
One of the most notable artists is Nguyen Dinh Hop. The lacquer paintings of Nguyen Dinh Hop have been displayed in Sydney and London. He also has paintings displayed at various international exhibitions such as the international painting exhibition held at the European Parliament to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II in 2015.
The artists were excited when the exhibition was given permission as this means the authorities now have a more open view on nude art.
Last year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism lifted the ban on Circular 1 on nude photography which had faced opposition from many photographers.
Photographer Dung Art previously complained that space for artistic expression through nude photography was very limited. He said though the authorities already announced that artistic nude photos could be given permits for exhibition but in reality, they faced many difficulties.
37 artworks will be displayed at Phuong Exhibition from July 12 to 18 at Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Hanoi.
