Several officials have expressed their opinions that former minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang had not been sufficiently punished for his actions.
Le Thanh Van, Standing Member of the National Assembly's Finance and Budget Committee admitted that was a too light fine compared to the seriousness of Hoang’s violations.
The Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Committee’s Inspection Commission has just proposed disciplinary measures to the Ministry of Industry and Trade party branch for the 2011-2016 period and former Minister Vu Huy Hoang for violations related to personnel.
According to the commission, the violations and shortcomings by the party branch at the Ministry of Industry and Trade and former minister Hoang had serious consequences, hurt the prestige of the party, state, the ministry and himself, as well as raised public concern so Hoang would be punished in the form of a warning and reprimand.
In an interview with Dantri/DTiNews on October 25, Le Thanh Van, Standing Member of the National Assembly's Finance and Budget Committee admitted that was a too light fine compared to the seriousness of Hoang’s violations.
Vu Trong Kim, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front met with the media on the sidelines of a NA meeting on October 25
"Besides that disciplinary action given by the party, Hoang needs to be punished by the state and government," Van confirmed. I think legislative bodies must take actions in this case to prevent future abuse of power."
The conclusion by the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission clearly identified Hoang’s wrongdoings. He intentionally broke the law in the appointment of Trinh Xuan Thanh and his son Vu Quang Hai. His wrongdoing in the appointment of Thanh contributed to the loss of over VND 3 trillion to the state budget. I think those violations are enough to be prosecuted, Van added.
Speaking with the media on the sidelines of a NA meeting on Tuesday morning, Vu Trong Kim, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front also stressed the need to prosecute Hoang and conduct more investigations into his violations.
Nguyen Dinh Huong, former deputy head of the Party Central Organisation Committee also said he was not pleased with that fine given to Hoang.
"I’m not happy with the fine proposed by the Inspection Commission," Kim said. "They have clearly identified his serious violations but the punishment they proposed was too general. And it could harm our fight against corruption."
Nguyen Dinh Huong, former deputy head of the Party Central Organisation Committee also said he was not pleased with that fine given to Hoang.
"Trinh Xuan Thanh has been prosecuted, so why not Vu Huy Hoang?" he asked.
