One person has been killed in floods which are ravaging Ha Tinh Province while a tropical storm approaches.
Tropical Storm Son Tinh is forecasted to hit the provinces and cities from Hai Phong to Ha Tinh tonight, July 18. Heavy rains have been pouring down in Ha Tinh, flooding mountainous districts of Huong Son, Huong Khe and Vu Quang.
The water level in Ngan Sau and Ngan Pho rivers rapidly rose and isolated many residential areas. The bridges across the Ngan Pho River have already been submerged. One local was storing the stuff at a pumping station when being swept away and killed by the flood.
Since Huong Son Hydropower Plant started discharging water from 3 pm, July 17, and floods are worsening.
In Nghe An Province, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Nghe An said there were 3,900 vehicles and 18,000 workers in the fishing sector which had been called to seek shelter. Reports from the Department of Transport showed that many parts of National Highway 48E have been submerged and five houses damaged by landslide.
Nghe An People's Committee asked related agencies to monitor the storm, issue timely information and guide the residents to shelters.
