Torrential rain in Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, and Khanh Hoa Provinces has triggered severe flooding in recent days, leaving one person missing and thousands of homes submerged.

The streets of Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh province have been besieged with water while many areas in the districts of Tuy Phuoc, Phu Cat, and Hoai Nhon are awash with water, and many routes are impassable. 

According to the provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, nearly 4,000 houses in lowland areas in the province have been inundated by floodwaters and swollen rivers. 

Dao Duc Tuan, director of Binh Dinh provincial Department of Education and Training, said the department sent a notification to schools, asking them to let students stay at home on December 4. 

 Chau Van Dung, head of Ky Lo hamlet in Dong Xuan district, Phu Yen province has been missing since he went to check the flood levels on December 3. Around 100 people were mobilized to search for Mr Dung.

The Phu Yen provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said several days of deluge has left many areas of Dong Xuan and Tuy An districts isolated.

As yet there is no end in sight for the flooding and water levels in rivers are forecasted to continue rising as heavy rains continue through December 4.
