Hanoi will have a total of five airports, including two international airports under a transport plan by 2030 with a vision for 2050 adopted recently by the Prime Minister.

Accordingly, Noi Bai International Airport will be upgraded into a 4E-grade airport under the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standard by 2020 aiming to cater 20-25 million passengers and handle more than 260,000 tons of cargos annually.
Gia Lam Airport will be used for military purposes and civil services. The 3C airport and grade II airfield are expected to serve 290,000 passengers per year.
Hoa Lac and Mieu Mon airports will primarily serve military purposes while Bach Mai Airport will become the airport for rescue operations.
Construction work on the second international airport will be planned in the future the capital city’s construction plan.
