Opportunity for local firms to enter $200bil games market

Now is the time for Vietnam’s game industry to enter the global game market, worth $200 billion.
VTC’s CEO Nguyen Ngoc Bao

VTC’s CEO Nguyen Ngoc Bao said that e-games have about 3 million players in the world, which is expected to increase to 4.5 billion by 2030.

Reports show that the game industry is valued at $200 billion, with a two-digit annual growth rate.

Vietnam is a games powerhouse in the region. It ranks seventh in the world and second in Southeast Asia for game downloads. Vietnam ranks third among top 10 game app developers in the region. For every 25 games downloaded, one is made in Vietnam.

Nguyen Quynh Tram, CEO of Microsoft Vietnam, praised the potential of Vietnam’s game market with its qualified developers, engineers and game creators.

“Vietnam has great opportunities and it is now the moment for Vietnam to develop this field,” Tram said, adding that it is necessary to create favorable conditions to improve the skills of game developers by using the best technological tools in the world.

Bao said the market is still small and hasn't received much attention from the world’s large corporations. However, he believes that the time is ripe for Vietnam to develop a community of users, especially when e-sports has more or less made its mark.

In related news, VTC and Microsoft signed an agreement on fourgames market, VTC, startup center,  major fields, including building an e-sport tournament system; training and upgrading game development skills; establishing a hybrid cloud platform for VTC; and helping VTC become a game startup center in Vietnam.
