 VietNamNet Bridge – OTT (over the top) app users may not be able to use the services free of charge any more, as the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) attempts to collect fees from them.

The existence of OTT (over-the-top) services has taken the bread of mobile network operators’ mouth. Meanwhile, the network operators still cannot find out what they need to do to retain the bread. Blocking OTT services is not a good idea.

Attracting more users, collecting fees from added value services and cooperating with network operators for mutual benefits are the three things enterprises have to do to get an in-grade promotion in the OTT market.

Mobile network operators, which lose billions of dong a year because of OTT apps, have decided to increase the 3G service fee by 25 percent. The move would allow them to pocket VND100 billion a month.

VNG, Line and some other content service providers affirmed that they have suggested operation projects with the big mobile network operators in Vietnam, but they have not got any replies from the operators.
