The event was attended by Politburo member, Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and head of the PCC’s Commission for Communication and Education Vo Van Thuong; President of Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) Tran Thanh Man; and Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy PM Dam emphasised that the event aimed to honour the scientific and technological intelligentsia for their great achievements in mobilising intellectuals and undertaking scientific research.

The ceremony will encourage intellectuals to continue to significantly contribute to the cause of industrialisation and modernization in the country.

The Government hopes that the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA), as well as the relevant agencies and intellectuals, would continue to uphold their responsibilities in building and implementing mechanisms and policies for the country’s development, he added.

He also noted that the organisation of the ceremony to honour the scientific and technological intellectuals will promote emulation movements to create and develop innovative techniques.

The event was also expected to improve the role and position of intellectuals and the VUSTA within society, in addition to demonstrating the attention and care given by the Party and State to the intelligentsia.

Among the honourees, five of the most outstanding intellectuals received the PM’s certificate of merit.
