Director of the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Le Thi Trang Dai, said that police have been deployed, while 30 inmates had been returned by late morning.

Over 100 inmates at Ba Ria-Vung Tau Vocational Training Centre in Tan Thanh District broke down the gates and fled at around 7am, Dai said.

Some inmates said that they have become angry at the long training course they have to attend in the centre, which lasts at least 12 months.

Earlier, nearly 400 inmates also escaped after attacking the guards and destroying facilities in the centre on the evening of April 13.

Similar incidents have recently occurred at Dong Nai Province Drug Rehabilitation Centre where hundreds of inmates tried to escape after complaining about the over-crowded facility.

Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Dao Ngoc Dung on November 7 asked Dong Nai Province Drug Rehabilitation Centre to release over 200 inmates following continuous recent protests among inmates at the centre.

Dung urged local police to check and deal with those who started and led the protests. He also asked the centre to find a proper place for the inmates while repairing and upgrading the facilities which have been badly destroyed in their recent protests.
