As of 3:00pm on July 22, officials from Cat Hai District (Hai Phong) reported that there are currently 3,885 tourists staying on Cat Ba Island due to the storm's effects.
To assist the affected tourists, the Cat Hai District People's Committee has issued a notice urging businesses, organizations, and individuals to provide maximum discounts on services. They have specifically encouraged a 50% reduction in room rates at accommodation facilities for tourists who are unable to return to the mainland due to the storm.
Pham The Anh, Vice Chairman of the Cat Ba Tourism Community, stated that as of 5:00pm on July 22, over 30 hotels and lodging establishments have announced a 50% discount on room rates for tourists stranded by the storm.
"This discount is a collective effort by the Cat Ba tourism community, aimed at providing the best support for tourists. We hope that visitors will remember Cat Ba Island as a place of 'kind-hearted hospitality'," said Mr. The Anh.
Earlier on the same day, the Hai Phong City Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue, and Civil Defense announced a suspension of all maritime transport, cable car services, and recreational activities in coastal and island areas from 12:00 pm.
To ensure the safety of people and property during strong winds and high waves caused by Typhoon Prapiroon, the committee has suspended domestic waterway transportation, ferry services, the Cat Hai - Phu Long cable car, and all tourism and entertainment activities in coastal and island areas starting from noon on July 22, 2024.
Authorities have been working to urgently inform and direct boats and ships at sea to seek safe harbor. They have also taken measures to prevent fishing vessels and other watercraft from operating during the storm's severe conditions.
Local governments, disaster prevention and search and rescue teams, and relevant agencies have been instructed to execute these directives and ensure effective implementation.
