VietNamNet Bridge – According to HCM City authorities, more than 70 tons of dead fish have been taken out of the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal. A large volume of chemicals was also poured into the canal to clean the water.

Nguyen Toan Thang, director of the Department of Natural Resources & Environment of HCM City, said that by May 18, workers collected more than 70 tons of dead fish from the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe Canal, which died by polluted water.

Thang also said that 250 people participated in this task, including workers of the Urban Environment Company, Public Service Company of District 8, Waterway Traffic Management Bureau, the Fire-fighting forces and others.

All 22 trash-fishing boats, 12 canoes, eight boats, three barges, and two crane ships were mobilized.

On May 19, most of the dead fish were collected and transported to the Da Phuoc dumping ground.

After dead fish were removed, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development poured seven tons of silicon dioxide and nuzeo into the canal to clean the water.

Local people began seeing dead fish on the canal on May 17. The volume of dead fish increased sharply in the early afternoon of the same day. The authorities began removing the dead fish to prevent pollution.
