Twenty-six flights between major cities in Japan and the central coastal city of Danang are expected to land at the latter’s airport from April 27 to May 2, transporting a total of 7,053 passengers, according to the Danang Tourism Promotion Center.

Of the total number, 16 are scheduled flights from Tokyo and Osaka, while other 10 chartered flights will be operated from Nagoya, Sapporo, Sendai, Niigata and Fukuoka to Danang City, said a representative of the center on March 18 when providing tourism promotion information for the first three months of 2019.

A representative of Danang International Airport said that the surge in the number of Japanese visitors to the city was due to the country’s long holiday marking the new Japanese emperor’s coronation. As such, many Japanese residents have arranged tours to other countries.

Besides this, Danang International Airport and the municipal Department of Tourism have partnered with Japan-based Chubu Centrair International Air to operate some chartered flights between Nagoya and the city, starting from April 27. The move will open the door for scheduled flights on the air route at the beginning of 2020.

Danang City has been sought after by Japanese holidaymakers since 2017. Japanese tourists have topped international arrivals in the city, followed by South Korean and Chinese tourists. As a result, Japanese tourism firms have begun working with Vietnam and Japan’s airlines to launch a series of chartered flights between Japan and Danang City.

Danang International Airport serves 33 international routes, with two of them from Osaka and Narita in Japan to the city.
