Nam said he had found materials widely available in the southern region for his unique artworks.

He recently created a Ho Chi Minh-theme painting from quao tree wood, which can only be found in southern Vietnam. Earlier, he turned out a work made of 13 kinds of seeds and beans like black sesame seeds, soy beans, red beans and green beans. He got a national art silver medal for this work in 1987.

He is now working on some paintings made from trunks of the Nipah palm tree, which is popular in the Mekong Delta.
Many of his works have been displayed in France, Thailand and Japan.

The 76-year-old is exploring the possibility of using other materials like durian and jackfruit for producing paintings.
