This is a much awaited plan the former Korean coach has pursued after leading the national football team of Vietnam, hoping to raise Vietnamese football to new heights.
“After years of dedication and devotion to Vietnamese football, I am delighted to establish this community academy with the aim of nurturing young talents and taking Vietnamese youth football to a higher level,” Park said.
Located in Hanoi’s Cau Giay District, Park’s football academy is to recruit primary school students. Park has invited experienced Korean coaches equipped with international standard training curriculum to “nurture trainees and provide them with the skills and knowledge needed to compete on the world stage”.
By opening the football academy in Vietnam, he said he has no ambition of training professional players but developing community football in the country.
It is expected that Park will invest in developing youth football in Vietnam. The Korean expert also left open the possibility of returning to the coaching profession if he receives a suitable offer.
Park Hang-seo has made history in Vietnamese football. Under his rule, Vietnam won the AFF Cup 2018, reached the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup 2019 and the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup. The national Olympic team reached the semi-finals of ASIAD 18, while U23 Vietnam won the SEA Games 30 and 31 and finished second at the 2018 Asian U.23 Championship.
