Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong chaired the fourth meeting of the Central Military Commission (2020-2025 tenure) yesterday, which reviewed military and defence tasks in the first half of this year and set goals for the rest of 2022.
The Party chief highlighted the need for combat readiness and close management of airspace, seas, islands, border, inland areas, key regions, and cyberspace.
He also stressed the need for the improvement of research and forecasting work while proactively, and promptly advising the Party and State to effectively handle all situations, and not to be passive when handling military and defence situations while firmly protecting the independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Fatherland.
He also ordered that the army should continue to promote its role in the fight against wrong and hostile views, while defeating the conspiracy and the "peaceful evolution" of hostile forces to firmly protect the ideological foundation of the Party, as well as striving to effectively implement the Politburo's guidelines and emulation movements, creating a driving force for the army to successfully complete all assigned tasks.
It is also important to strictly implemented Resolution No 05-NQ/TW dated January 17, 2022, on the organisation of the Vietnam People's Army in 2021 - 2030 and the following years, he said.
He also ordered to improve the quality of training, and drills while further strengthening international integration and implementing defence diplomacy in an active, proactive, flexible, and effective way.
The Party chief also requested the commission and the defence ministry to continue to cooperate with relevant authorities to implement effectively the plans, strategies, and laws on military and defence as well as the Resolution on the direction of socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security of regions by 2030.
