Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has urged the Ministry of Public Security's Mobile Police High Command to ensure absolute safety for the country's major events, including the upcoming 12th National Party Congress, the elections of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and the People's Councils at all levels for 2016 to 2020.

Visiting the Ha Noi-based High Command on Saturday, the Party chief said amid the current complicated developments in the region and the world, the public security force and mobile police in particular must always stay loyal to the Party, State and people, work closely with other forces and garner all possible public support to fulfill assigned tasks.

The mobile police were asked to obey the guidelines and policies of the Party and the laws of the State regarding the guaranteeing of security and order while better serving as an advisor to the Party and State on issues related to the national security and social order.

They need to improve training and rehearsal quality while strengthening close-knit ties with local authorities and people, he said, adding that he hopes they will continue upholding their heroic tradition to contribute to maintaining political security, social safety and order and safeguarding territorial sovereignty.

Since its establishment in 2009, the High Command of the Mobile Police has performed well its role for the Party, State and ministry's leaders.

With regular drills and close coordination with units concerned, the force has uncovered a number of criminal cases involving drug traffickers, foreigners, smugglers and rioters; thwarted plots by hostile forces; protected the execution of judgments; and engaged in flood control, search and rescue.

One of the most notable achievements of the mobile police this year was a series of successful operations regarding drug smuggling. In January, Lao Cai mobile police force arrested three Laotian members of a trans-national drug smuggling ring who were illegally transporting 227 packs of heroin into Viet Nam before delivering it to another country for sale.

Yen Bai mobile police in May also managed to bust a smuggling ring, seizing 4,000 synthetic drug pills and 14 heroin packs. The number of pills was a record for drugs ever seized.

The northern province's mobile force also played a key role in tracking down the killer in the tragic murder of four family members in the province, known by the public as the Lam Giang Commune's murder case.

Meet with NA deputies

Yesterday, Trong joined a meeting that gathered National Assembly (NA) deputies from the first to the eighth tenures of Ha Noi to mark the 70th anniversary of Viet Nam's first General Election, which took place on January 6, 1946.

On January 6, 1946, in response to President Ho Chi Minh's appeal, Vietnamese people, regardless of their gender, social class or religion, took part in a general election to elect Viet Nam's first National Assembly by a democratic, equitable and direct ballot.

This extremely important event was set in the country's history as an important milestone, marking a great step forward in the country's democratic institutions and ushering in a new period of national development.

Over the past seven decades with 13 tenures, the National Assembly has marched together with the nation and carried forward its role and position as the people's highest representative agency and the country's most powerful body in line with the Constitution and the law, significantly contributing to national liberation, reunification, construction and defence.
