The visit, which comes at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, holds significant importance as it marks To Lam’s first foreign mission since assuming his new position.
Joining the delegation are several key members of Vietnam’s political leadership, including Politburo members: Do Van Chien, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Le Minh Hung, Head of the Central Organization Commission; Nguyen Xuan Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; and Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security.
Other prominent figures in the delegation include Le Hoai Trung, Head of the Central Commission for External Relations; Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Chief of the Central Office of the Party; Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang; Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh; along with several other central and ministerial leaders, the General Secretary’s assistants, and the Vietnamese Ambassador to China.
This visit is a particularly significant diplomatic event between Vietnam and China, underscoring the deep-rooted ties and strategic importance both countries place on their relationship. It also comes at a special time, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s arrival in Guangzhou to engage in revolutionary activities.
During the visit, General Secretary To Lam is expected to participate in an official welcoming ceremony and hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He will also meet with other senior Chinese leaders to discuss ways to deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
According to Pham Sao Mai, Vietnam’s Ambassador to China, the two sides will brief each other on the internal situations of their respective parties and countries, while also exploring ways to enhance bilateral relations.
This visit holds special significance as it coincides with the centenary of President Ho Chi Minh’s arrival in Guangzhou, where he engaged in revolutionary activities. Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Xiong Bo highlighted that General Secretary To Lam will visit several historical sites in China associated with President Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary activities and will meet with representatives from friendship organizations, intellectuals, and scholars from both countries.
The Chinese side has expressed high expectations for this visit, hoping it will further strengthen the traditional friendship between China and Vietnam, consolidate political trust, and advance the building of a China-Vietnam community with a shared future of strategic importance. The visit is also expected to contribute positively to peace, stability, and development in the region and beyond.
This state visit marks a new chapter in the long-standing relationship between Vietnam and China, as both nations look to build on their shared history and work towards a more prosperous future together.
