The ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi.
Mr. Trong welcomed Biden and his entourage on a State visit to Vietnam. He invited his guest to the podium of honour to render the flag salute, and review the guard of honour.
After the ceremony, the two leaders posed for photos before moving to Party Central Committee’s Office where they were scheduled to hold high-level talks.
This is Biden’s first visit to Vietnam after he took office in early 2021.
The visit takes place at a time when Vietnam and the US are celebrating 10 years of their comprehensive partnership and 28 years of their diplomatic ties.
The visit is expected to help bilateral relations develop stably, substantively and durably in all fields, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.
US President Joe Biden is beginning the two-day State visit to Vietnam on September 10 at the invitation of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
This is the first time a US President has made a State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of a General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee.
Many high-ranking officials of Vietnam attended the welcoming ceremony, including: Politburo member, Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man; General To Lam, Politburo member, Minister of Public Security; General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Minister of National Defense; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chief of the Party Central Committee Office Le Minh Hung; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai; Member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Committee for Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung; Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Hanoi leaders, and Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung.
