To ensure traffic order and safety, HCM City’s Department of Transport has decided to ban private buses with more than 25 seats on some streets in District 10 including Le Hong Phong, Vinh Vien and Tran Nhan Ton from 6am to 10pm, starting October 29.
The municipal Department of Transport has installed traffic signs prohibiting passenger buses with more than 25 seats from Le Hong Phong Street from 6am to 10pm everyday.
The move is aimed at hurting the operation of illegal buses and illegal bus stops in District 10, especially the illegal bus station on Le Hong Phong Street.
Earlier, the city banned all cars from stopping on District 1’s Pham Ngu Lao Street from 6am to 12pm and vehicles with more than nine seats from parking on District 2’s Mai Chi Tho Street between 6am to 10am and from 4pm to 8pm every day. Vehicles with more than nine seats aren’t allowed to pick up and drop off travelers at some inner streets like Nguyen Thai Binh, De Tham, Le Hong Phong.
Various efforts have been made by authorities to eliminate illegal bus stops and reduce the risk of traffic accidents.
According to HCM City People’s Committee, 3,765 violations have been detected and handled since the beginning of this year. Total capital collected from penalties amounted to VND5.7 billion (US$255,000).
The number of pick-up points across the city has been reduced substantially to 85, half of last year’s figure.
