At a petrol station in Binh Thanh District, Nguyen Dinh Truong said that he had been waiting for over 30 minutes to buy petrol.
"I had to walk from two shut petrol stations with my out-of-petrol motorbike before arriving here," the man said. "Over the past two days, I tried to buy petrol at several other stations in the city but some said they had run out, while others were over-crowded and only sold a limited amount to customers."
A motorbike taxi driver, Tran Thanh Lam, said that this was the fifth petrol station he had visited so far that afternoon after the four others had announced that they had run out.
"My work has been interrupted in recent days due to petrol shortages," he said. "This is the first time we've faced this problem."
The HCM City Department of Market Management late Sunday afternoon announced a list of 54 petrol stations that had run out of fuel.
The municipal Department of Industry and Trade the same evening admitted that the city is facing difficulties in fuel supply due to import interruptions of some local firms and the transportation being affected by the recent storms and floods in the central region.
The department has asked some traders to urgently ensure proper fuel supply to local retailers within the night.
"We're going to have the petrol prices adjusted on October 11 to ensure profits for petrol traders," the department said.
