Police in District 2 in HCM City are investigating into complaints by residents in Thao Dien Ward that their pets have suffered from mass poisoning.

A leader of the District 2 Police Department told Dantri/DTiNews on August 30 that they've sent a team to investigate the issue after receiving dozens of complaints by mostly foreign residents.

According to a Colombian man who is living in the area, his seven-month-old dog died after showing signs of poisoning.

"He was lying inside the house when suddenly had a fit of convulsions and threw up," he said. "I saw some pieces of raw meat while I only feed him packaged food."

He said he rushed his dog to a nearby vet but it died soon after that and the vet said it was poisoning.

“I suspected that someone threw the meat into my yard and my dog ate that," the man said. "Then some of my neighbours also reported that their dogs or cats died of the similar symptoms on that day and some following days."

The Colombian and his neighbours wrote to the local police to ask for an investigation into the incident. Their report said that nine dogs and a cat had died from poisoning right inside their house over the past few days.

A vet in the area told Dantri'/DTinews that he has received four dogs with symptoms of poisoning over the past few days and could only save one.
