France's famous brand, Peugeot Scooters, has announced it will return to the Vietnamese market after a 50-year absence, with the target of becoming one among the top-three brands in the high-end scooter segment in the country.

Peugeot Scooters comes back to Viet Nam market after 50 years.

Xavier Casin, Peugeot Motocycles Vietnam Representative Office & ASEAN Director said the market has "high potential with Vietnamese consumers making many purchases, including buying scooters instead of traditional motorbikes".

Since few high-end scooter companies operate in Viet Nam, the Peugeot Scooter brand will become a new alternative for local customers, he said, adding that the scooters will have a price from VND50 million (US$2,200) to VND80 million ($3,600).

To mark its return, the company plans to open its 'brand store' concept by the end of this year. Other showrooms will open in HCMC and Hà Noi and other cities in the country.

The company is now seeking more distributors to expand their presence in the country, Casin said, adding that the latest scooters would be sold in the Vietnamese market.

Latest models will be displayed at the Viet Nam International Motorshow 2016 which opens in HCM City on Wednesday, he said.

The Peugeot Scooter brand and its models S55, S57, 102 and 103 were famous in Viet Nam between the 1950s and 1970s.
