The Ministry of Public Security has filed an additional charge of “abuse of position and power while on duty” against Phan Van Anh Vu, also known as Vu “Nhom”, who has already faced two counts.

The ministry’s Security Investigation Agency said on February 7 during a press conference that it is investigating Vu, a 43-year-old businessman from Hai Chau district, central Da Nang city, for “deliberately disclosing state secrets” and “tax evasion” after the Supreme People’s Procuracy issued decision 06/QD-VKSTC-V1 dated January 6, 2018 on the case.
During the course of the investigation, the agency issued a decision on February 7 to commence criminal proceedings against Vu and an order to put Vu in temporary detention for four months for further investigation into law violations committed by Vu and some related organisations and individuals in trading public-owned land and houses in Da Nang and other cities and provinces.
On the same day, the People’s Supreme Procuracy approved the decision and orders.
The Security Investigation Agency issued an arrest warrant for Vu on December 21, 2017. He fled to Singapore but was then deported for violated the Immigration Act of Singapore. Vu was arrested upon his arrival in Vietnam on January 4.-VNA
