A series of meetings were held by the Can Tho University of Technology in late  November discussing Dang’s case, but no final conclusion was made.

In mid-March 2015, he attended a workshop in Hanoi with his own money after making a verbal report to the dean. In April, he was suspended from the post of associate dean. On August 18, he was restored to the previous post. However, on October 12, he was dismissed from the post and on November 4, he was forced to go working at the training division.

On November 19, Dang reported his case on his Facebook page. The entry was commented by the school’s president Duong Thai Cong as a behavior of ‘speaking ill’ of the school.

“I can see in him a scientist with passion who always thinks about doing something to help the farmers in his homeland ease their hard work and improve their lives,”

Tran Thi Ngoc Lan, Dr of Chemistry, lecturer at the HCM City University of Natural Sciences

Dang returned to Vietnam in 2012 from the Netherlands where he finished the university education. In early 2013, he took the office as associate dean of Electronics & Telecommunications of Can Tho University of Technology, which was established on the basis of an in-service university training center.

However, it was Dang who had been managing daily works until he was disciplined, because the dean – Tran Hoang Linh – was at the HCM City University of Technology.

The scientists contacted by reporters all expressed concern about Dang being expelled from school.

“I can see in him a scientist with passion who always thinks about doing something to help the farmers in his homeland ease their hard work and improve their lives,” commented Tran Thi Ngoc Lan, Doctor of Chemistry, lecturer at the HCM City University of Natural Sciences, the owner of ENBC Binh Lan, a firm specializing in providing biochemical solutions, including ones utilizing Dang’s inventions.

Dang wants to create high tech products to help shrimp farmers control the quality of water and create online diary on shrimp farming, which would allow clean farming and export of clean shrimp at high prices.

Dang, with Lan’s support, created two spectrophotometers which can measure ammonia and nitrite, which are harmful to shrimp. The expenses were covered by Dang alone.

“The machines gain successes beyond any imagination,” Lan said.

Dang also invented a machine which measures salinity and TDS based on modern technologies.

“I many times advised Dang to find a job in HCM City because I know a lot of schools want to employ a talented and enthusiastic scientist. However, Dang said he needs to work in his native land,” Lan said.
