Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said on August 23 that bilateral talks between his country and China may start "within the year."
The President also told reporters at the presidential palace that he does not plan to bring up the East Sea dispute at the ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, Laos next month. However, he added that the topic will be discussed if anyone else brings up the issue.
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar announced the President will start his official visits to ASEAN countries, starting with Brunei from September 4-5.
After Brunei, the President will arrive in Laos for the ASEAN summit and related meetings from September 6-8. He will conclude his tour in Indonesia from September 8-9.
