The husband - Mr. Ho Van Kich – works far from home. Yen said the couple loved having many children so they continued to have children over the last 20 years. The women believed that “each day brings its own bread”. She said health workers told her to go to a clinic for sterilization but she did not have the money. Her eldest child is 26 years old and the youngest is 2. All 13 children were born at home as her house if far from the nearest health station. After giving birth, Yen ate only gruel and boiled water.

Ho Thi Bao Nhi, 5 years old, can find food whenever she is hungry. Yen said she cooked a big pot of rice and put it in the kitchen. If her children are hungry, they can go to the kitchen to eat rice.

Local authorities have to issue two family record books to this family because one book does not have enough pages to record information of all family members.

The woman said she could give birth very easily and had sufficient breast milk to feed her babies.

The family installs bamboo pipe to take water from the mountain to their home.

The couple has to work very hard to be able to feed their kids.

The couple and their oldest children work for families in the neighboring communes to earn their living. Four children had to quit school to work.

Seven children of school age may have to quit school.

This is the biggest family in Tra Thanh Commune.
