VietNamNet Bridge - After surgery and nearly a month of treatment, Ms. Trieu Thi Chai in Tam Kim commune of Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang province has escaped from a 20kg tumor on her face, happily returning to her village and family.
Let’s look back the miraculous process to rescue Chai from the insulting nickname "the woman with the demon face."
Chai, almost 70 years old, of Red Dao ethnic minority, had a giant tumor on her face for more than 20 years.
The tumor was identified as the consequence of the symptom called meninx hernia. Her face was disfigured while the left eye was damaged. Part of the tumor was deep in the brain.
After some local newspapers published stories about her case, the Central Dental-Facial Hospital performed free surgery for her.
Doctors said the surgery was extremely complicated because the tumor was huge and it was related to the brain and the face. Moreover, the patient suffered from other diseases.
The 10-hour surgery was conducted successfully by leading doctors of the Vietnam-Germany Hospital and the Central Dental-Facial Hospital in Hanoi on December 21, 2015.
In a press conference held after the surgery, Chai said that she could not believe that she had escaped from the giant tumor after 20 years.
After nearly one month in hospital, Chai has fully recovered. She left the hospital on January 7 with a completely new face.
