The competition themed “High Mountain Forest Discovery- Sa Thay 2023” represented a prime opportunity for Kon Tum to introduce images of local nature, culture, and people to both domestic and foreign friends.
This was the second time Sa Thay district (Kon Tum province) hosted the paragliding tournament.
The tournament took place on February 2-5, attracting 120 athletes from 14 clubs, including 26 foreign athletes from 9 countries: Canada, Switzerland, England, France, Japan, China, Korea, Singapore, and Hong Kong (China).
The event saw the paragliders compete in two categories: precise landing and cross country (XC) flying.
Competitors were given the chance to earn more points on the World Paraglider Ranking System (WPRS), as well as being recognized by the Paragliding World Cup Association (PWCA) as part of the criteria to attend the Paragliding World Cup.
Sa Thay is located in the southwest of Kon Tum province and about 30km from the center of Kon Tum city with many majestic natural landscapes such as Chu Mom Ray National Park, Ya Ly lake, and Bat cave. The paragliding tournament is an opportunity to attract domestic and foreign tourists to Sa Thay.
The best time for paragliding in Sa Thay lasts from October to May next year.
The event was jointly held by the SaiGon Paragliding Club (SGP) and the Paragliding World Cup Association in Vietnam (PWCAVN).
"Chu Tan Kra (Sa Thay District) is praised by domestic and foreign pilots as a spectacular destination with favorable weather conditions for long-haul flying according to international flight standards. We hope the event will spread passionate about paragliding and help the locality have more activities to attract tourists and develop tourism", said Mr. Le Minh from the SaiGon Paragliding Club.
