VietNamNet Bridge - Not having a server to store films, pirated websites illegally exploit resources of Google and Facebook. With this method, the websites earn billions of dong though they have no capital.

Some sources said phimmoi.net, the website which provides films without copyright to the highest number of visitors, charges VND25 million per week for each box of ads.

Surprisingly, the owners of such websites which have monthly revenue of up to billions of dong, don’t have to pay to run the websites. They use the server of Google to store and show pirated films.

However, this method is now less useful as Google has taken measures to prevent this. The method cannot ensure stability for unlicensed films.

The owners of websites have to spend very little to buy unlimited Google Drive accounts at VND150,000-300,000 to store films.

Google can automatically lock the links with an abnormally increase in the number of hits. The owners of websites have to prepare many different links in case some links are locked or if they face numerous risks related to copyright.

But things are different with Facebook. The websites’ owners don’t have to pay to store films on the platform. 

“Previously, when using Google Drive, they had to spend one dong to gain four dong in profit. Now, with Facebook, they don’t have to spend anything, while their system could be even more stable,” said Thai Son, a website programmer in Binh Thanh district, HCM City.

According to Son, at first, websites’ owners have to create fanpages on Facebook and publish films in private mode.

“They publish film in private mode because Facebook doesn’t ask about the copyright of private videos,” he explained.

After that, the owners of these websites will stream films by checking the source codes of the Facebook page with videos, find the links after the code paragraph sd_src_no_ratelimit: corresponding to SD standard, and change to hd_src_no_ratelimit: to HD standard.

In principle, the links have limited ‘life expectancy’. After four hours, Facebook renews them once. However, with some simple code lines, the websites’ owners can create a tool which takes the latest links from Facebook when users watch films.

Most websites providing films without a copyright with large numbers of hits such as phimmoi and phimbathu have shifted to use servers of Facebook instead of Google.

Many websites use Jwplayer, the film streaming software well-known for good interface for websites. The software is sold at $1,000 per year.
