At the event, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Lam Thi Phuong Thanh said the media has continued to perform its role effectively in communicating the Party’s guidelines and State policies. She described the press as a bridge between the people and the Party, helping convey the message of a Vietnam striving for development in a new era while actively participating in social initiatives.

The minister noted that, alongside the broader political system, media organizations are seriously implementing organizational restructuring efforts aimed at streamlining operations and improving efficiency.

Vietnam currently has 733 media organizations, including 98 newspapers, 597 magazines and 38 radio and television broadcasters. This represents a reduction of 189 media entities, including 97 newspapers, 58 magazines and 34 broadcasting organizations.

Thanh said the ministry is accelerating work on a strategy for the development and management of Vietnam’s press system through 2030, with a vision toward 2045, for submission to the Government.

In the immediate term, the ministry is also preparing decrees and circulars to guide implementation of the revised Press Law following its approval by the National Assembly, ensuring the legal framework keeps pace with the evolving media landscape.

Looking ahead, the minister emphasized the need for media organizations to expand the application of science and technology, advance digital transformation and improve the quality of both content and human resources.

She also urged the press to proactively identify and effectively counter hostile viewpoints, misinformation and harmful content, while continuing to support anti-corruption efforts and contribute to building a clean and strong political system.

On the occasion, Thanh proposed that the Government consider special mechanisms and policies for the media sector, including task assignments and commissioning arrangements that would help news organizations strengthen financial autonomy and improve content quality.

She also expressed hope that the Party and State would continue supporting journalists and media workers during ongoing restructuring efforts by introducing appropriate measures to stabilize livelihoods, retain high-quality talent and encourage long-term commitment to the profession.

Addressing the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man noted that this was the first time the National Assembly and the Government had jointly organized a gathering in celebration of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day.

He reviewed the country’s major socio-economic achievements and acknowledged the significant contribution of the media in helping communicate and support these developments.

According to NA Chai Man, the press has closely followed the resolutions of the 14th National Party Congress and has vigorously promoted major Party and State policies, strategies and initiatives. Coverage has also comprehensively reflected key national issues, including the ongoing restructuring of administrative units and public institutions, as well as efforts to achieve ambitious economic growth targets.

The National Assembly Chairman said the media has remained at the forefront of protecting the Party’s ideological foundation, refuting false and hostile narratives, strengthening the quality of official information and fostering a healthy, humane and responsible media environment.

He also acknowledged that media organizations have adapted their thinking and operations to keep pace with a rapidly changing and increasingly challenging communications environment, particularly amid institutional reforms and administrative streamlining.

News organizations have continued investing in digital technologies, contributing to national digital data platforms and developing modern newsroom models staffed by multi-skilled journalists capable of competing in the digital era, he said.

He praised many impactful and emotionally resonant stories that have encouraged public support for Party policies and State laws. He also highlighted the role of the media in creating broad public forums that strengthen democracy, noting that many reports have demonstrated strong investigative value and thoughtful, incisive criticism.

Looking forward, he called on the press to further promote key national messages, particularly those delivered by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam regarding Vietnam’s development in a new era, as well as the Party’s major strategic directions, including the Politburo’s ten pillar resolutions.

The media should continue providing comprehensive and timely coverage of the activities of the National Assembly and the Government while effectively conveying the concerns and aspirations of voters and citizens to policymakers, thereby contributing to more effective governance, he said.

NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man reminded journalists and reporters that they are frontline participants in the ideological and cultural sphere and therefore have a responsibility to challenge wrongdoing, oppose harmful practices, defend what is right and promote positive role models throughout society.

He also encouraged media organizations to accelerate digital transformation, embrace artificial intelligence, build professional, humane and modern newsrooms, safeguard information sovereignty in cyberspace and contribute to the growth of Vietnam’s digital content industry.
