Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Japanese Ambassador Kunio Umeda in Hanoi on May 5 to discuss preparations for the PM’s upcoming official visit to Japan.

Ambassador Kunio Umeda said the Japanese side has coordinated with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make the best preparation for the trip, so that the two countries can sign many cooperation agreements and projects that benefit both sides.
He said Japan wishes to invest in energy projects in Vietnam such as environmentally friendly coal-fired or liquefied natural gas-fired electric power plants.
In the field of support industry, Japan is willing to help Vietnam in auto industry with a focus on small-and medium-sized enterprises, he said, informing that a delegation of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will travel to Vietnam to discuss the issue with several Vietnamese agencies.
Responding to PM Nguyen Xan Phuc’s request for assistance in fighting drought and adapting to climate change, the Ambassador said Japan is studying the possibility of helping Vietnam build irrigation systems to ensure production during dry seasons. He also suggested that the Vietnamese Government continue to improve institutions to raise the efficiency in using water resources.
PM Phuc affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to enhancing the strategic partnership with Japan.
During the visit, the PM is scheduled to hold talks with his counterpart Shinzo Abe and meet with leaders of Japan’s National Diet and political parties.
He will also attend and deliver speeches at the Asia Future Conference and an investment promotion conference, during which the leader will send a message on the new investment environment in Vietnam as well as the role played by the Vietnamese Government.
