President Tran Dai Quang has asked the National Assembly (NA) to approve the assignment of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to the post of Vice Chairman of the Council of National Defence and Security (CNDS).

The President on April 11 presented a list of nominated vice chairman and members of the NCDS to the NA for approval, including:

1. Nguyen Xuan Phuc – Prime Minister, Vice Chairman

2. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan – NA Chairwoman, member

3. Ngo Xuan Lich, Minister of National Defence, member

4. To Lam, Minister of Public Security, member

Earlier, Chairwoman of the National Election Council (NEC) Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan also submitted a list of vice chairs and members of the NEC to the NA for approval. The list includes:

2. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh – Vice State President

NA deputies will discuss in group the approval of proposals.

In the afternoon, the NA Standing Committee, the NEC Chairwoman and State President will report to the NA result of the group discussion.

The NA will adopt the NEC Chairwoman and State President’s proposals by casting secret ballot before voting for ratification.

NA approves dismissal of Council of National Defence and Security members

With a majority vote, the National Assembly on April 11 ratified proposals on relieving 14 members of the National Election Council (NEC) and three members of the Council of National Defence and Security (CNDS).

Head of the Vote Counting Board Huynh Van Ti announced the results of the secret ballot.

Dismissal of the following CNDS members:

1. Nguyen Tan Dung – former Prime Minister, Vice Chairman – with the support of 471 votes or 95.34% of total NA deputies.

2. Nguyen Sinh Hung – former NA Chairman, member – with 480 approval votes or 97.17%

3. Phung Quang Thanh, former Defence Minister, member – with 479 votes for or 96.96%.

The following NEC members were removed from their posts:

1. Nguyen Xuan Phuc – Prime Minister – with 481 approval votes or 97.37%

2. Nguyen Thi Doan – former Vice State President with 482 votes for or 97.57%

3. Tran Dai Quang – State President – with 483 approval votes or 97.77%

4. Huynh Ngoc Son – former National Assembly Vice Chairman – with 484 votes for or 97.98%

5. To Huy Rua – former Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission – with 486 votes for or 98.38%.

6. Ngo Van Du, former head of PCC’s Inspection Commission, with 485 approval votes for or 98.18%

7. Phung Quang Thanh – former Minister of Defence – with 484 votes for or 97.98%

8. Nguyen Thi Nuong – former member of the NA Standing Committee – with 482 vote for or 97.57%

9. Nguyen Thai Binh, former Minister of Home Affairs, with 485 approval votes or 98.18%

10. Nguyen Bac Son – former Minister of Information and Communications – with 496 votes for or 98.38%

11. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, Chairwoman of Vietnam Women’s Union – with 475 votes for or 96.15%

12. Dang Ngoc Tung, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, with 475 votes for or 96.15%

13. Nguyen QuocCuong, President of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association, with 477 votes for or 96.56%

14. Nguyen Dac Vinh, First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, with 482 votes for or 97.57%

Lawmakers also voted to approve a resolution adopting the NEC Chairwoman and State President’s proposals on dismissing the above people from two councils’ member posts.
