Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has ordered the National Committee of Traffic Safety and the Ministry of Transport to take measures against overloaded vehicles, and non-transparent competitiveness in car transport businesses.

The number of overloaded and oversized vehicles on the roads has increased significantly. 

The order follows a recent report in Vietnam News Agency’s e-newspaper vietnamplus.vn on the issue that claimed transport firms following transparent processes were on the verge of bankruptcy owing to non-transparent competitiveness.

At a recent meeting between the government’s working team and the transport ministry, Mai Tien Dung, Minister and Head of the Government Office who heads the working team, said inter-sector co-operation between the transport and public security ministries was effective in keeping a check on overloaded vehicles. However, after the plan ended, the crackdown has been uncontrolled.

Dung said that most scale stations were unmonitored, and that the number of overloaded and oversized vehicles on the roads has increased significantly. 

He also accused transport inspectors of protecting overloaded vehicles and not getting the police involved.
