Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc (R) shakes hands with newly-accredited US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink

During a reception for the US ambassador in Hanoi on December 26, PM Phuc spoke highly of Kritenbrink’s contributions to enhancing Vietnam-US relations when he worked as Senior Director for Asian Affairs at the US National Security Council.

While recalling his official visit to the US in May 2017, the PM said the two sides discussed and agreed on a number of measures to strengthen the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership.

Vietnam has been actively implementing already-reach measures, including those to balance bilateral trade, he said, adding that the growth of two-way trade will benefit the people of both nations.

PM Phuc hoped the US Ambassador will have a successful working tenure in Vietnam, affirming that the Government of Vietnam will coordinate with the US to drive the bilateral rapports forward.

Kritenbrink said the US considers Vietnam as one of its important partners not only in the region but also in the world.

The ambassador congratulated Vietnam on the successful organisation of the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders Week and conveyed US President Donald Trump’s thanks for Vietnam’s warm welcome when he visited the Southeast Asian country in November.

Kritenbrink said his major task is to strengthen and expand cooperative relations between the two countries.

Sharing the PM’s views, Kritenbrink said economic and trade cooperation is a pillar in Vietnam-US cooperative ties, which is developing rapidly.

The diplomat hoped to work with Vietnam to well address challenges and make use of opportunities to promote bilateral relations.-VNA
