Traffic police of different provinces have fined over 1,300 drivers for violating regulations on Highway 1A, stretching from the northern province of Ha Nam to the central province of Nghe An.

The move was part of a one-week campaign to ensure traffic order and safety.

During the campaign which started on December 28, police revoked the driving licences of as many as 133 drivers and temporarily seized 41 vehicles, including 417 coaches, 483 lorries, 73 semi-lorries and 73 cars.

Police also foiled four trafficking cases involving fire crackers, wine, cosmetics, clothes, electronics equipment, medicines and poultry with unclear origin.

At 8.30pm on Tuesday, the Nghe An Police checked a 30-plus seater coach driven by Pham Ngoc Hung, 35. They found 40 cartons with 3,200 chicken and ducks without any quarantine papers. The poultry was handed over to the Dien Chau District’s Health Animal Division for treatment.

Last Friday, the Ninh Binh Police checked a lorry driven by Tran Trong Nghia, 34. The lorry was transporting wine, watches, cosmetics and clothes worth some VNĐ2 billion (US$88,800) without any bills and papers of their origin. — VNS
