The railway project management unit of the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway has asked the police to identify the vandal who drew graffiti on the train.

On Tuesday, the railway project management unit learned from the general contractor, China Railway 6th Bureau Group, that someone had broken into the Cat Linh-Ha Dong station in Hanoi and painted graffiti on the engine and body of the train.

The unit has dispatched staff to investigate and has directed the general contractor to report the matter to the authorities.

Currently, the authorities are conducting their own investigation into the incident.

The railway project management unit has requested the general contractor to enhance security across the site. It has also asked for security support from the city’s police department and district police, as the project will pass through the district and the unit wishes to avoid similar incidents that might affect the progress of the project.

According to the railway project management unit, comments on the exterior and interior design of the train were solicited from the public before samples were sent to China for the train’s construction.

The trains were manufactured by the Beijing Subway Rolling Stock Equipment Co. Ltd. Each train is 79m long, 3.8m high and 3.8m wide. The designed maximum speed of the train is expected to reach 80kph and the operating speed is some 35kph. 

The trial run of the capital city’s first metro system has been postponed for three times to September next year, due to slow capital disbursement and the general contractor’s limited management capacity.— VNS
